About The Author

Dr. Bill Parsons was born in Apollo, Pennsylvania and raised in Pittsburgh, where he had his pre-medical and medical education at the University of Pittsburgh. During his training in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic, he learned from Canadian doctors that large doses of niacin could reduce cholesterol. After conducting the first systematic study of the drug's effect, he went on to pioneer its clinical use and, with his Mayo colleagues, report niacin's success to the medical world. A charter member of the Council of Arteriosclerosis of the American Heart Association, he has written chapters on niacin's use in several books, as well as many articles in medical journals.

After practicing internal medicine for 18 years in Madison, Wisconsin, where he continued his niacin research, and for 21 years in Scottsdale, Arizona, he recently retired..

Bill and his wife, Lynn, have two grown children. In retirement he enjoys playing tennis, doing talk show interviews about his books, and relaxing in their cabin on the Mogollon Rim, near the White Mountains of Arizona.

In addition to Tough Talk About Fat! How to Reach and Maintain Your Ideal Weight, Bill is the author of Cholesterol Control Without Diet! The Niacin Solution. Its hardcover first edition was succeeded by an updated, expanded second edition (paperback, 2003). Both books are written for the general public. Doctors enjoy them also and recommend them to their patients.
