William B. Parsons, Jr., MD first studied the effects of niacin in 1955, when he was still in his internal medicine training at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. There, applying an idea suggested by Canadian researchers, he conducted the first systematic study of this new treatment and reported it to the medical world. His later reports from Madison, Wisconsin, where he continued his work, led to the Coronary Drug Project, a nationwide 8-year study which showed that niacin reduced heart attacks, strokes, cardiovascular surgery, and deaths. Over the years he has written many medical articles, chapters in three medical books on use of niacin, then (1998) the first edition of Cholesterol Control Without Diet! The Niacin Solution. He practiced medicine for 18 years in Madison and 22 years in Scottsdale, Arizona, before recently retiring. In 2003 he published the second edition of CCWD! and, also a new book about weight control, Tough Talk About Fat! How to Reach and Maintain Your Ideal Weight.       The second edition (Paperback) of CCWD! again tells the truth about cholesterol in a readable manner intended for the lay reader, as well as doctors. It contains the truths of the first edition, with updates after each chapter and also five new chapters, 6 pages each. Once again, it lists niacin's distinctive advantages over the widely advertised, expensive, best-selling statin drugs.       Tough Talk About Fat! does not scold a person for being heavy. Instead, it urges him to get tough with that excess fat and get rid of it.       A bookmark included with each copy of TTAF! reads: Presented with loving concern, knowing that weight control can prevent heart attack and diabetes while sparing weight-bearing joints. The publisher encourages readers to give the book to friends and relatives, then asking them to do the same.
